This is purported to be a postcard from around 1908 showing the railroad entrance to Coalwood.  We are unsure where this would have been taken.

Tim says about the picture of the train: "Can't do any better as, when Early Smith, one of Olga Coal's Mine Foremen sent to me, he had reversed the print which was no better. I had to retype the names of the crew and glue underneath the photos."

DGcm5171: Coalwood Service Station.  This is where the Country Store is today.  The mine foreman's house would be behind us.  Photo compliments of the David Goad Collection.

DGschoolbribge: This is the road leading to Coalwood Main.  Parallel to the road are the N&W railroad tracks which lead to the tipple.  (The tipple is behind us on the left side of the street.)  Coalwood School (a.k.a. Coalwood Junior) is the building on the hill on the left.  The steel pedestrian bridge takes the children across the road and the railroad tracks to school. Photo compliments of the David Goad Collection.

Coalwood Community Center

This building was located next door to the Big Store in Coalwood Main.  At one time, the building housed a community center, the Industrial Grade School, and a theater.  After the building was torn down, the floor and walls of the basement were covered with concrete and turning into the Coalwood swimming pool!
